Card Studio and templates

Cards opens Card Studio. A template describes how a collectible card is laid out: the canvas size, background, artwork frame, text layers, fonts, colours, and optional icon. Templates belong to the selected instance.

The first time you enter, the Template picker shows the current default template. You can edit that template, select another existing template, or create a separate one for a special event or a group of collectibles.

  1. Open Cards from the sidebar.
  2. Open the Template dropdown and select Create new.
  3. Enter a clear Template name. Use names that tell you where the design is used, such as Base card, Winter event, or Legendary frame.
  4. Set Canvas width and Canvas height. Both must be at least 100 pixels. Choose the finished card size you want to design for; changing dimensions later can require repositioning layers.
  5. Click layers on the card or choose them from the layer list in the Object Inspector.
  6. Position and style each layer, then press Save Template.

Saving a new template stores the layout. It does not automatically assign that template to every collectible. Use the relevant collectible, set, or special settings when you are ready to make it live.

The large card in the centre is the design surface. Select an object, then move or resize it on the canvas. The Undo and Redo buttons step backward and forward through changes made in the current editing session.

Use -, the percentage label, +, and Home to control the canvas view:

  • - zooms out.
  • + zooms in.
  • The percentage shows the current zoom level.
  • Home returns the view to its normal zoom.

Zoom changes your view only. It does not change the saved card size.

The download controls are for a working copy of the template. Choose All, Text only, Background only, or All (.zip) from the dropdown. Tick or untick Artwork box depending on whether that guide should be included in the download, then press Download template. Downloading does not save dashboard changes, and saving does not download a file.

The panel on the right edits the selected layer. The layer list tells you what objects exist on the template. Select a layer there when it is hard to click on the canvas.

The Render object switch shows or hides the selected object. A hidden object remains in the template so you can turn it back on later.

Select the artwork layer to set the collectible image frame. Artwork fit has two choices:

  • Cover fills the frame and may crop the outside of the image.
  • Contain keeps the whole image visible and may leave unused space in the frame.

Artwork radius rounds the frame’s corners. You can drag the range control or type an exact value.

Choose artwork loads a temporary image into the editor so you can judge the layout. Clear removes that preview. Preview artwork is not uploaded or saved with the template; actual collectible artwork comes from the collectible itself.

When the background layer is selected, choose Color or Image. Background color is the fallback colour and the editor preview colour. Choose background lets you test an image in the editor; Clear removes that test image.

The background file selected in this panel is preview-only. To set a live background, use the collectible set or special configuration that owns the live background. This separation prevents an accidental editor test from changing cards already shown to players.

For a text layer, choose its Text color, Font size, and Font. The Sample text box changes the example text in the editor so you can see whether a long name fits. It does not replace the real collectible name on live cards.

Use Left, Center, or Right for text alignment. Turn on Auto-shrink when long values should reduce in size to fit their box instead of overflowing. Turn it off when you prefer a fixed type size and will design enough space yourself.

The Preview Finish dropdown lets you temporarily preview a special effect on the canvas. It is just a design preview. The collectible or special decides the real effect that players receive.

Turn on Advance mode to expose exact layout controls. Here you can type a layer’s X and Y position, Width, Height, and Rotation. For text, advanced options also include minimum font size, line spacing, stroke width, and stroke colour.

Use these fields when you need pixel-level alignment. Move an object approximately on the canvas first, then use exact values for small corrections. The Advanced JSON box is optional for additional configuration keys. It is not needed for normal template editing; leave it alone unless you know the exact configuration you intend to add.

At the bottom of Card Studio, Font Library lists built-in fonts and fonts uploaded for this instance. To add one, press Choose font file, select a .ttf, .otf, .ttc, or .otc file, and press Add Font. After it is added, select the font from a text layer’s Font dropdown.

Uploaded fonts show their name, version, and an optional View asset link. Press Delete only when no template needs that font any longer; a text layer that references a removed font may fall back to another font. Template Admin and Font Admin open the underlying administrative listings for advanced maintenance, not the normal design workflow.

Save the template, test it with short and very long sample text, test a portrait and a landscape artwork preview, and check it on mobile. Keep important text away from the outer edge. Then assign the template where the relevant collectible, set, or special is configured and render a real test collectible before announcing it to players.
